In the spring term, year 5 read Robert Swindell’s horror story ‘Room 13’. As a class we were hooked from the opening chapter and were kept in suspense throughout the novel! We were inspired to use some of Robert Swindell’s techniques when writing the missing chapter of the book – chapter 13! In our maths lessons we have continued to develop our fluency of number. We have been adding and subtracting numbers with up to five digits and have been using our reasoning skills to solve problems that involve numbers of this size.
We have nearly come to the end of our history topic based on British settlement by the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots and also our geography topic based on rivers. We discovered that we have some very talented historians and budding geographers in year 5!
In science, we started our Earth and space topic, which we had an introduction to at the Museum of Science and Industry in the autumn term! We are very keen to continue with this topic and to learn more about our galaxy!
In art we are focusing on painting. The painter that we studying is Georgia O’Keeffe. We have also studied colour theory and used our understanding to create our own watercolours that have been inspired by Goergia O’Keeffe’s abstract expressionist style. In DT, we continued with our pencil cases and some of us are now enjoying using them in class!
