In year 6 this Spring term we have read a book called The Promise by Nicola Davies. The main theme that runs through this book is change and how through good choices we can have an impact on our lives as well as others. The children wrote as the main character in the story to explore her emotions. The also used their descriptive writing skills to describe what the city had become. In our history learning we continued to learn about battles and wars and during this half term we learnt about the Battle of Trafalgar and who Admiral Nelson was. After this we learnt about the Battle of Britain and its significance within World War 2. Within geography we learnt about global trade and in particular what an economically more and less developed country was. We then learnt what fair trade was and how we have helping poorer countries with this. We lastly learnt what the highest value export was and how this was very different for more and less economically developed countries. Impressionism has been our focus specifically looking at Claude Monet’s paintings, looking at the main themes water, reflection and how he painted with oil paints. We have learnt that he used a Tache (touch) technique using only 9 specific colours.
